About Us Print E-mail
McLeod & Company LLP began in 1980 as a two person law firm committed to a philosophy based on the belief that the legal profession is, above all else, a service industry.  It has always been our position that the quality of the relationship, both personal and professional, between a law firm and its clients, together with the service provided in terms of sound, practical legal advice for a fair fee, is what distinguishes one law firm from another.  In keeping with this philosophy, our law firm emphasizes to its members, and trains them, to look at a client's problem not only from a strictly legal perspective but also from the client's point of view, both economic and otherwise.

All lawyers at McLeod & Company LLP restrict their practices primarily to one of the major areas in which the firm practices, namely civil litigation, real property and banking law, wills and estates, securities, corporate/commercial transactions as well as oil& gas.  Each new problem is matched by the partner in charge of the department to the partner or associate best suited to resolve that particular issue for the client.  When clients have problems outside the areas in which we normally practice, we do not hesitate to call on outside advisors.

We believe that our structure strikes the proper balance between the general practitioner, who cannot possibly be familiar with enough areas of law to properly assist clients with a wide range of legal problems, and the narrowly specialized members of our profession who often do not have enough general experience to see alternative solutions which may be available to resolve a multi-faceted problem.

McLeod & Company LLP takes pride in the manner in which its members keep themselves and our clients abreast of the ever changing law, both in terms of case law as well as legislative and regulatory amendments.  Summaries of the most recent developments in the law are circulated and reviewed by all members of the firm once a month.  Developments of note are routinely discussed at regular department meetings with a view to determining any existing clients or files which may be affected.  In addition, the firm attends various Canadian Bar Association Subsection meetings including the Wills & Trusts, Tax Non-Specialist, Securities, Business Law, Intellectual Property, Environmental Law, Real Property, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, Insurance and Foreclosure Subsections.  Firm members also regularly attend seminars and courses offered by the Legal Education Society of Alberta to refresh and expand our respective areas of practice.

We have advised many of our clients from their business inception.  We would like to think that our assistance has played at least some small role in the success of so many of them.  As our clients have grown, so have we.  McLeod & Company LLP is now the largest law firm outside Calgary's downtown core with members practicing in the areas of civil litigation, real property law, corporate/commercial and securities, oil & gas as well as wills, estates and estate planning.  We also employ articling students who provide assistance in all areas of the firm.  Although we are located in the south part of Calgary, our clientele is spread throughout the City.  Many of our clients comment that they find our offices more accessible than many downtown firms and they appreciate our regular office hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  As well, we are available to meet and take after hours calls.

We are proud of our firm's accomplishments which have allowed us to grow significantly, even through periods of recession.  We intend to continue to expand our capabilities to provide service to our existing clientele and we hope to be able to offer our services to new clients in the future.
