Family Law

Vita was born in Edmonton, raised in Calgary, lived and worked in Red Deer for a number of years and is now back in her home town of Calgary, Alberta.

Vita attended the University of Calgary where she earned a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology and Deviance, in 1999. She then ventured out East to Halifax, Nova Scotia where, in 2002, she earned her Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University. While at Dalhousie Law School, Vita worked for a summer with the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic focusing on family law and child welfare matters. This is where her interest in matrimonial matters became most clear to her.

Once graduated from Law School, Vita returned to Alberta to commence her legal career. Vita articled at Calgary Legal Guidance and actively participated in the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta's Family Law Duty Counsel Pilot Project in its first year assisting in all types of family law matters where her interest in and knowledge of family law continued to grow. Vita was called to the Alberta Bar and became a member of the Law Society of Alberta in 2003.

Since her call to the Bar, Vita has focused her practice primarily in the areas of matrimonial and child welfare matters.

Vita is a trained Mediator and Collaborative Family Law practitioner and member of the Board of the Association of Collaborative Professionals in Calgary and Chair of the Policy Committee within this Association. With a background in Litigation and Collaborative Law to resolve matrimonial matters, Vita is ready and willing to assist those who, through their separation, would like to respectfully exit their relationships with the least stress and harm to themselves, their children and their extended network of friends and family, as possible, while ensuring that their rights are upheld and obligations under the law are fulfilled.

Certainly eager to be involved in the community and to assist others in a hands-on fashion, Vita volunteers as a family law lawyer at the evening legal clinic hosted by Calgary Legal Guidance, she teaches the Department of Justice's Parenting After Separation Seminar, is a member of the Canadian Bar Association's Family Law Section and the Secretary on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Bar Association's Alternative Dispute Resolution Section.

In her spare time, Vita enjoys traveling, practicing Ashtanga yoga, swimming and spending time with her family and friends.
