Plaintiff Personal Injury Lawyer (Contract)

McLeod Law is seeking an experienced personal injury lawyer that is looking for a different kind of career as an independent contract lawyer; a career that has more flexibility and the ability to choose when they work, where they work and how many hours they work.  Lawyers who are interested in operating as non-exclusive, independent contractors, including strong defence-side personal injury litigators are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Liaise with the client through the entire life of the file and/or manage particular steps in a variety of files
  • Gather medical documentation and analyze damages 
  • Build and maintain the client relationship by keeping them informed and involved
  • Manage the relationship with the insurance adjuster and/or opposing lawyer
  • Prepare settlement proposals and negotiate/mediate the settlement
Qualifications
  • 4-7 years of experience of relevant personal injury and/or defence work
  • Exceptional client management and customer service skills
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal relations and team work
  • Canadian qualified
  • High level of commitment and motivation

Articling students

Hiring criteria

We do an initial review of resumes and transcripts. Then, after the selection process, interviews are held. We hire an average of three articling students each year who rotate between both offices.

Litigation Legal Assistant - Resource Team

The Legal Assistant on the resource team performs clerical and office functions for Legal Assistants while they are out of the office and assists with the overflow of work on a day-to-day basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Coverage for Legal Assistants who are absent and ensure continued workflow primarily in our Bannister Road office but also in our downtown office
  • Transcribe and type legal documents from dictation device or hand-written notes
  • Route or answer correspondence
  • Respond to telephone, email and in-person inquiries
  • Perform clerical, administrative and general office duties
  • Perform administrative duties with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, billing, etc.
  • Assist other assistants and lawyers
  • Prepare follow up information for the Legal Assistant to ensure the continuation of work upon the Legal Assistant's return to work
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • 3 - 7 years’ experience in a legal assistant role in various areas of law, including litigation
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • A high level of skill in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting situations and multiple demands
  • Digital dictation experience an asset

Marketing Administrative Assistant

We are looking for a full-time marketing administrative assistant. Reporting directly to the Marketing Manager for marketing operations and initiatives, this role will assist the Marketing Manager in administration, the delivery of marketing initiatives, and a wide range of projects for the firm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains the firm’s client database, including data entry, issuing list updates and running reports
  • Updates directories and assists in rankings submissions
  • Prepares, organizes, distributes and tracks marketing materials
  • Coordinates promotional items - sourcing, budgeting, maintaining inventory, preparing packages
  • Coordinates and tracks tickets and tables
  • Coordinates sponsorships and donation commitments and activities
  • Updates website with content and fields website inquiries
  • Supports the Marketing Manager with executing events
  • Implements the holiday card process
  • Supports the Student Recruitment program
  • Supports Marketing Manager with administrative tasks
  • Supports onboarding of new lawyers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One to three years of relevant administrative or marketing work experience
  • Post-secondary in marketing or related discipline an asset
  • Experience in professional services an asset
  • Strong computer and desktop publishing skills - MS Office and Adobe InDesign an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • An energetic, proactive and positive attitude
