Articling students

Substance is important and so is attitude. At McLeod Law, we look for bright, well-rounded students who are active in the community and value relationships. Many of our students grow with the firm to ultimately become partners. In fact, a number of our partners articled with us and built their legal careers at McLeod Law. We set you up for success. Students receive mentorship and go through our intensive professional development program that is designed to give you substantive legal knowledge and practice-management skills with hands-on, direct client contact.

Hiring process

We do an initial review of resumes and transcripts. Then, after the selection process, interviews are held. We hire an average of three articling students each year who rotate between both offices.

Summer student opportunities

We are currently not recruiting students for summer 2023, but we will resume recruiting first year summer students in February 2024.

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Legal Assistant to join our Family Law Practice Group at our office located in Manulife Place. As a legal assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our team of lawyers in providing exceptional legal services to our clients in family law matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist lawyers in the preparation and filing of litigation documents and pleadings.
  • Manage and organize client files, ensuring all documents are accurately maintained and up to date.
  • Assist lawyers in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders.
  • Organize and expedite the flow of work through the lawyer’s practice, initiating any follow‐up action as appropriate
  • Co‐ordinate flow of documents between legal professionals and clients at all levels
  • Work proactively in the day-to-day support of the legal professionals’ practice
  • Administrative duties including time entry, bill preparation and information requests
  • Provide general administrative support, including answering phone calls, taking messages, and managing emails.
  • Collaborate with other legal assistants and support staff to ensure efficient workflow and practice group coordination.
  • Other duties as assigned

As our ideal candidate, you will have the following qualifications:

  • Legal Assistant Diploma from a recognized post‐secondary institution
  • Two to seven years of experience as a Legal Assistant in Family Law
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal directly with clients
  • Excellent attention to detail, highly organized and proactive
  • Highly proficient in MS Office and ability to learn new software and technology quickly
  • Perform well under pressure with tight deadlines and completes repetitive tasks with accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain client confidentiality.

System Administrator - Information Technology

At McLeod Law LLP, we thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment that moves at a fast pace, where innovation and digital transformation are at the core of our IT strategy. We're in search of a forward-thinking System Administrator who embodies the spirit of teamwork and is dedicated to the collective success of our IT Department. This pivotal role comes with the responsibility of overseeing and maintaining the core technology stack at McLeod Law, which includes Network and Server Infrastructure, Cloud Services, and Endpoint Management. This role will be key in driving digital transformation initiatives as we continue our innovation journey. The System Administrator will also serve as an escalation point from Level 1 IT Support, providing guidance and expertise and actively contributing to firm Learning and Development Initiatives.

The System Administrator will significantly enhance IT Support Operations by following ITSM best practices, ensuring IT policies are followed for data and security compliance and collaborating with different departments to leverage technology to improve their workflow and user experience.

The successful candidate will report to the IT Manager and must demonstrate expertise in IT User Support, ITSM, Server and Network Administration, Microsoft 365 and Endpoint Management, and an understanding of Cyber Security principles and compliance, ticket escalation and user support.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the escalation point for the IT Support Team, resolve incidents and other technology-related requests for local or remote users and be available for after-hours support.
  • Oversee the deployment, installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices as needed.
  • Manage the firm Network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and other services such as Site-To-Site VPN, SSL VPN, Remote Access (RRAS) and VoIP Services. Troubleshoot network issues to maintain optimal performance and availability while keeping the overall network secure by following industry best practices and compliance.
  • Manage the firm Server Infrastructure, including but not limited to Windows servers, by installing, migrating, configuring, and managing server applications and services. Monitor server performance, implement patches, and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Manage Active Directory services, including Azure AD, Group Policy, Conditional Access, MFA, Single Sign-On and overall Identity Management.
  • Manage the firm virtualization infrastructure, such as VMware and Hyper-V, by creating, configuring, and managing virtual machines and optimizing infrastructure for optimal performance and resource utilization.
  • Maintain and develop a robust monitoring and alerting framework to proactively identify issues and improve the overall infrastructure health.
  • Maintain and develop scripts for automation, provisioning, and monitoring tasks. Streamline processes and enhance efficiency through scripting.
  • Manage and administer Exchange Online, Microsoft Team, SharePoint, and other cloud-based services such as Power Automate and ensure seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Manage and administer other Cloud Service Platforms and Applications across all departments, including but not limited to Elite 3E Cloud, NetDocuments, Fresh Services, Atera RMM, 1Password, AskCody, Adobe Sign and more.
  • Collaborate with Managed Service Providers and Vendor Application Support to ensure seamless integration, including validation planning, validation testing, and deployment of different apps and services.
  • Manage and administer Microsoft Endpoint Management by automating the deployment of computer workstations using Autopilot, Mobile Device Management and Application deployment using Intune.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining backup solutions. Ensure disaster recovery strategies are in place and regularly tested to guarantee data integrity and availability in case of failure.
  • Work with Cybersecurity Managed Services to proactively identify and provide remediation recommendations for security weaknesses and gaps at the enterprise level.
  • A maturity and commitment to following ITIL methodology (change, incident, and problem management) and IT Project Management guidelines. Ability to track and triage incidents against problems.
  • Act as subject matter expert in designing and reviewing new server systems, applications, and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including communication, mentoring, coaching, and the ability to interact with colleagues at all levels.
  • Competence in creating clear documentation on existing technology and developing knowledge base material for the IT Departments and McLeod Law Users.
  • Ability to work after hours and be on call, when necessary.

As our ideal candidate, you will have the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in information technology or an IT-related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Service Desk or End User Support Role.
  • 3+ years of experience administering and managing network infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting and managing Windows Servers and virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V.
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint and Teams) and Microsoft Azure
  • 2+ years of experience managing Endpoints using MDM Technologies such as Intune, Workspace ONE, or MaaS360. Patch Management and Application Deployment.
  • Providing high-quality technical support, effectively analyzing issues, providing issue resolution, and customer notification.
  • Showcase expertise by providing satisfactory explanations and solutions to customer questions and issues to gain their confidence.
  • Create good working relationships among members of the IT Department to ensure a smooth flow of work, which improves overall performance.
  • Actively participates in self-improvement, process, and technology training programs.
  • Continually strives to expand comprehension of troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Participate in documentation and product review and provide new content to the knowledge base.
  • Work on-time resolution and quality compliance of escalated tickets or incidents as per the agreed SLA.
  • Providing technical leadership and training for new and existing products within technical areas.
  • Perform other/additional duties and projects that may be periodically assigned.

  • CompTIA A+ certification
  • Office 365 Certification
  • Experience with NetDocuments
  • Experience or certification in ITIL Framework
