Articling students

Substance is important and so is attitude. At McLeod Law, we look for bright, well-rounded students who are active in the community and value relationships. Many of our students grow with the firm to ultimately become partners. In fact, a number of our partners articled with us and built their legal careers at McLeod Law. We set you up for success. Students receive mentorship and go through our intensive professional development program that is designed to give you substantive legal knowledge and practice-management skills with hands-on, direct client contact.

Hiring process

We do an initial review of resumes and transcripts. Then, after the selection process, interviews are held. We hire an average of three articling students each year who rotate between both offices.

Application deadline

The 2022-2023 application deadline for articling students has passed. Please check back with us for more information on when the 2023-2024 articling student opportunities will open.

Summer student opportunities

We are hiring two first-year summer students to start with us in May 2022.

The recruitment period opens January 18, 2022 at which time we begin accepting applications. The application deadline is January 27, at 11:59 pm MST.

We will do an initial review of all application material submitted. Starting January 31, 2022 we will begin offering interviews to students. The interviews will happen from February 22 - 25, 2022.

Offers of employment will be made on February 25, 2022 at or after 5:00 pm. MST.

The Human Resources Assistant role at McLeod Law is an exciting opportunity for someone who is ready to take on new challenges and develop their career. Working closely with the Manager of Human Resources in our Bannister Office, you will cover a wide variety of responsibilities as part of the administration team.  

As a Human Resources Assistant, you will:

  • Provide clerical/administrative support to the Human Resources Manager
  • Maintain human resource records including employee files, management of viGlobal software and HR information on SharePoint and Dayforce
  • Assist in Human Resources activities such as on- and off-boarding, job postings, performance appraisals and facilities management
  • Assistance with payroll and benefits
  • Schedule interviews, conduct reference checks and prepare new hire packages
  • Schedule meetings and HR events
  • Assist with the performance management processes
  • Assist with the coordination of employee recognition initiatives and workplace safety
  • Assist with facilities tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources
  • Absolute confidentiality and discretion are mandatory
  • Experience working in a law firm setting an asset
  • Familiarity with viGlobal products, Dayforce and/or SharePoint an asset
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, along with strong grammar and proofreading skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Initiative; proactive approach to problem solving
  • Quick learner with ability to adjust to changing environments and deadlines
