40 Years, 40 Stories
Kristy Williams, Associate
If Kristy’s four degrees didn’t make it clear, education is important to her — and she brings it to her practice every day, in many ways.
With two science degrees, Kristy is a whiz at analyzing a problem and finding solutions. As a bonus, with a PhD in neuroscience, she can speak the language of the medical professionals she often deals with in her personal injury practice. She’s even stood at the front of class herself, teaching legal research and writing, professional ethics and health law. And 2021 will see the inaugural awarding of law and engineering scholarships she and her husband have created at the University of Calgary.
McLeod Law’s like-minded principles are important to Kristy. “McLeod gives its people many opportunities.” She especially appreciates all the mentoring she’s able to do with young lawyers and the LadyLunch events she spearheaded to support female colleagues. Other ways the firm supports its staff include a professional development program and excellent maternity leave plan. “McLeod’s programs and corporate culture have allowed us to retain lawyers we otherwise wouldn’t have,” she observes.
In her own practice, Kristy gets her clients “back to whole.” It’s not just about rights and entitlements — she helps clients grasp the psychological effects of their trauma. “I want them to know they’re not alone,” she explains, “and that there are people who will help them.”
In celebration of our milestone anniversary, 40 Years 40 Stories celebrates the diverse expertise, personalities and points of view that have helped our firm grow with the Calgary community since 1980.
