Overview: 

Maria practices primarily in the areas of corporate finance, capital markets and securities regulation as well as business and corporate commercial law. She represents both public and private clients and has worked on a broad range of domestic and international transactions including public offerings, public mergers and acquisitions debt and equity financings, private placements, corporate reorganizations and corporate structuring. Maria has extensive experience negotiating, drafting and reviewing complex internal and external contracts and joint venture agreements. 

Maria is a trusted advisor to her clients, and she is a highly efficient and comprehensive resource to them. For over ten years, Maria has worked diligently to develop strong relationships with clients, frequently acting as the external general legal counsel to advise on all business matters across a broad range of industries. 

Maria’s considerable experience enables her to meet the needs of corporations, partnerships, joint ventures, trusts and nearly any other type of business. Maria’s philosophy when it comes to corporate law is simple - to place the interests of the client first. 

A member of the Securities Law and Business Law subsections of the Canadian Bar Association, Maria participates in their Mentor program.

Maria has acted as Corporate Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors of several public and private companies in a variety of sectors and industries, including oil and gas services, land development and technology. Some of her most recent directorships include Panoptic Automation Inc., R3mote.io Ltd., MyCare MedTech Inc., EquipFlip Ltd., QE2 Acquisition Corp. and CellarMaker Imports Ltd.

Maria received her law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2005 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2006. Prior to joining McLeod Law, she was a partner at a securities boutique firm in Calgary, an associate at a global law firm, and was in-house legal counsel to an energy-focused income fund.
