Avoiding Investment Fraud: 'Check Registration Day'

News
March 18, 2015

The best way to avoid becoming a victim is to become fully informed before investing.

March 18 is ‘Check Registration Day’, according to the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). Visit their site (www.aretheyregistered.ca) to verify if the person selling you an investment is registered to sell securities or offer investment advice in their Province or Territory. This program exits because the unfortunate reality is that not all individuals and firms promoting investments are trustworthy, and not all investments are what they are advertised to be.

In addition, in Alberta, you can access helpful tips and obtain concrete information, such as whether a person or company has an enforcement history on their website (www.albertasecurities.com).
